Yooperlites are a variety of syenite, an igneous rock, that formed around a billion years ago during volcanic activity. They are made up of sodium, aluminium, silicon, oxygen, and sulfur, and contain trace amounts of fluorescent minerals like calcite and apatite. You can display them under UV lights, like 365nm longwave lights, to make them glow.
